A Book Review: Lavish Lace: Knitting With Hand-Painted Yarns

I originally borrowed this book from the library but with my first thumb though the pages, I knew I wanted it in my own collection. I could see myself coming back to this one again and again for ideas and inspiration. The colors! The texture! I don't even think I had a favorite pattern picked out as much as I just wanted the whole book! I was surprised to find it was out of print though I was able to get a copy from Amazon Marketplace.

Pretty, pretty lace projects in a variety of yarn weights and bonus design advice, including the writer-designer's own experiments, and "color commentary" from the dyer.

On The Needles

Right now I'm working on the Lace Ribbon Scarf from Knitty.com and a pair of Seaweed Socks. I do have one pair of baby leggies done that I need to block, and another pair to get started on.

My poor, lone Bubble Wrap sock is inching closer and closer to the frog pond - who knew I would become victim to SSS (Second Sock Syndrome)! But if it comes down to that, and I think it might, I'll probably cast on again, only next time toe-up, two-at-a-time.

We'll see where all that lands in the ole' queue considering the Lace Ribbon is taking over my life! I haven't even taken the time of download and edit the pictures of my, or rather, DH's finished Slip Stitch Rib socks. Soon though. Soon.

Aright, how about a couple pictures to kick off this new knittin' blog!

First the FO: My choice for the TKSC's April Sock: the Flutter-by(ies?)

TKSCApril08_Flutter-by

Originally CO the 70 called for in the pattern but frogged that out and re-CO'd 60 for a smaller size, which I
thought would fit my sister. Not. Ah well, an object lesson in following directions. (as if I needed another one. :P) Went back and forth from two circs to Magic Loop - finally settled on ML. Cuff down. Short-row heel. Wedge toe. Okay yarn - Brown Sheep Wildfoote Luxury Sock - might use it again for the lower price point.

And a WIP: Slip Stitch Rib Socks

Slip Stitch Rib

Another fuddled with pattern, finally reincarnated into these toe-up babies. Judy's Magic Cast On, Magic Loop, short-row heels. Lovely yarn - Mountain Colors Bearfoot - that is
, after we made friends. Took me a while to decide if the the Mohair and I were going to get along but we're all good now. I'm really liking this toe-up business; all the hard work is out of the way first and I get to enjoy the pattern the rest of the way up to the cuff.
